Mayor Adams Indicted

Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on felony charges on Wednesday (9/25/24). I’m glad to see more prosecutions of this nature. It undermines the argument made by MAGA that Trump’s prosecutions are ‘Witch-hunts’ (somehow everything good is because of him and everything bad is because of enemies making him a victim). Additionally, I’m glad that Bob Mendenez resigned as well.

CAFE Insider had a good conversation regarding the case, and they seem to think the case is relatively strong especially with regards to Mayor Adam’s text messages. I would like to hear more about it from other legal scholars.

My main concern is that SCOTUS (Supreme Court of The United States) will continue its trajectory of narrowing legal laws regarding political corruption. In the past, the court has been unanimous narrowing the scope, but at least last term the liberals dissented in Synder v United States. However, it is not surprising that Clearance Thomas and Samuel Alito continue oppose corruption cases. Clarence Thomas is famously corrupt. He has taken in millions in ‘gifts’ from billionaires like Harlan Crowe and conservative legal movement master minded by Leonard Leo.

The more people like Adams and their benefactors that are held accountable the better. Hopefully, Donald Trump as well once his cases finish the appeal process.
